Definition of Plotter

A plotter is a computer printing devices for printing vector graphics. In the past, plotters were widely used in applications such as computer-aided design, though they have generally been replaced with wide-format conventional printers, and it is now commonplace to refer to such wide-format printers as "plotters," even though they technically aren't.

Summary of Lecture for Chapter 2

1. Objectives of the DL are to provide accessible digital collection(digitized and digital material), to provide online services, to provide online guided reference services (provide, teach and guide),to support creation and use of digital information resources through the provision of facilities that enable people to communicate and share this resources

2. Web also has many potentials to be used as part of student learning experiences.

3. The differences among four types of staff of DRC is things that they managed, skills that they used to perform tasks given and knowledge used to solve problem during the process of work.

4.Most of skill needed to develop DRC is the one being studied in Information System management based subjects.

5. Metadata is a standard used to organize systematically digital information so that is can be retrieve (information retrieval system) and store (databases).

6. There are six aspects that need to be highlighted in managing financial resource to develop DRC (licensing, payment for online subscription, space requirements, equipment and communication, people with appropriate skills, cooperation from commercial vendors, income generation, electronic publication and charging of online services)

7.Some of the potential problems faces during conversion project is optical scanner easily breakdown (cost of maintenance is very high), computer disks fill up and files tend to get loss or overwritten and OCR has errors that have to be manually corrected or ignored.

Summary of Lecture for Chapter 1

1. Digital Library is type of library consists of (most of the it)digital resources (digital collection and services) for remote users.

2. Other definition of DL is a collection of digital objects) including text, audio, and video, along with methods for access and retrieval and for selection, organization and maintenance of the collection that only in computer processable form.

3. People still prefer to use book rather than ebook because of portability, reliability, familiarity with the medium, low cost and ability to annotate(edited.marked)

4.Publishers, distributors, booksellers and libraries played an important roles in popularizing electronic publication

5.The similarity of digital materials it is all in the computer readable form.

6. OCR (Optical Character Recognition is a software that recognizes the shapes of the letters of the alphabet and produces a file exactly the same as one produced by a word processor used to type in the same text.

7. graphical Manipulation is refer to condition where digitized images can be stretched, compressed, re-sized, recolored and rewrite on the image. E.g of software used to have this capabilities is Adobe Photoshop.

8. OPAC in the digital world used to facilitate users to retrieve digital information easily

9.CD technology is a technology used to store and disseminate digital information to remote users

10. One of the most important contributions of the web technology has been the creation of digital libraries, which allow users to access digital information resources from virtually anywhere in the world.

11. Digital collection are digital surrogates, non printable objects and digital artifacts that cannot be distributed in printed form.

12. Resource Center is a systematic organized collections of carefully and purposely selected information that are used to provide appropriate and timely information, program and services to pupils and teachers of the schools in order to strengthen the method used and opportunities.

13. Digitization projects required someone who know how to manage project resources (people, cost, time and assets) effectively and efficiently to the stakeholders

Definition of Digital Library

A digital library is a library in which collections are stored in digital formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media) and accessible by computers.[1] The digital content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. A digital library is a type of information retrieval system.

According to Arms (2000), a digital library is a 'managed collections of information, with associated services, where the information is stored in digital formats and accessible over a network'.

The definition provided by Oppenheim and Smithson, on the other hand, lays emphasis on digital technologies. According to them, a 'digital library is an information service in which all the information resources are available in computer process able form and the functions of acquisition, storage, preservation, retrieval, access and display are carried out through the use of digital technologies' (Oppenheim and Smithson, 1999)
